Stewed Fruit with Nuts
Chop some seasonal fruit (such as apples, pears, and peaches or plums) into slices or chunks, depending on your preference. Use one pear for every three apples and there is no need to add any other sweetener. Put the fruit into a steel saucepan with just enough water to cover the bottom of the pan (once it starts to cook, it will cook in its own juices).
Cover the pan and cook on a low heat (you only want it to simmer, not boil). Depending on your stove, you probably have time for a shower or hang out a load of washing while it cooks. Serve with ¼ of a cup of chopped mixed nuts. Sprinkle a level teaspoon of cinnamon over the stewed fruit.
For variety, add a cup of blueberries to the pot.
